Walking in Palaiochora
A wonderful walk in Palaiochora, Aegina Mystras, a hill interspersed with medieval churches with frescoes of saints, and directly opposite to the imposing church of Agios Nektarios.
Provided the people of Aegina protection from pirates.
Tradition says that the churches of Palaiochora are 365, as many as the days of the year. Historical studies, however, indicate that in fact there have been around 50. Today we can visit the 33 still lasting.
Some of the temples have over the entrance door bell and it is a wonder how they survived in occupied area.
Today, already some of the temples have been renovated and have restored sections of the paintings as St. George Catholic, Episkopi, the St. Dionysius cell, the church of the monastery of Agia Kyriaki and Life Giving Fountain, the Agos Stephen and the Holy Cross.
